Television networks screened pilots this week to test audiences to help them decide their choices for brand new shows to air this fall. Out of the list of all the pilots that were screened, one project was by none other than Fringe creator himself, J.J. Abrams (Lost/Super
– the project named Alcatraz was one of the pilots being shown to test audiences.
However, rumor has it that that it didn’t go down so well! Which for a J.J. Abrams project is not what we want to hear, the guy is a genius! Though it is common for sci-fi pilots to receive mild reactions at the pilot stage.
Alcatraz – piloted by Fox, follows a detective and a ‘geeky’ Alcatraz expert in present day working together to discover what happened to 20 men, prisoners and guards that mysteriously vanished from Alcatraz prison 50 years prior. The 20 missing men begin to reappear, having not aged a day since their disappearance.
An interesting summary, with the potential to be another Lost perhaps?
Some say that the network have cooled off on the pilot due to lack of audience interest, though a minority of executives have a ‘soft spot’ for the Abrams pilot, so it still stands a shot above the rest of airing.
