Fringe’s Joshua Jackson has been added to the upcoming film Lay The Favorite – a biopic of Beth Raymer, a cocktail-waitress-turned-professional-gambler-turned-writer. Set to play Raymer is Rebecca Hall – british actress that has recently starred in the likes of Please Give, The Town and Frost/Nixon. Jackson is rumored to star as Raymer’s love interest. With stars including Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and possibly Justin Timerlake already signed on, Josh seems to have landed himself the most successful film role since The Mighty Ducks.
Directed by Oscar nominated Stephen Frears, the film shows the life of Beth Raymer and how she became hugely wealthy by entering the world of sports gambling and learning to manipulate the sportsbook system when introduced to a group of characters in Las Vegas – only to give it all up for love.
The film is still currently in the the final stages of the script process, and is set to being production later on this year.
A huge comparison from Fringe – though it’s important for actors and actresses to test out a variety of genres and experiment with roles. With most of Jackson’s past movies being not so successful, it will be interesting to see how this film works out for him.
