However, rumor has it that that it didn’t go down so well!  Which for a J.J. Abrams project is not what we want to hear, the guy is a genius!  Though it is common for sci-fi pilots to receive mild reactions at the pilot stage.

Alcatraz – piloted by Fox, follows a detective and a ‘geeky’ Alcatraz expert in present day working together to discover what happened to 20 men, prisoners and guards that mysteriously vanished from Alcatraz prison 50 years prior.  The 20 missing men begin to reappear, having not aged a day since their disappearance.

An interesting summary, with the potential to be another Lost perhaps?

Some say that the network have cooled off on the pilot due to lack of audience interest, though a minority of executives have a ‘soft spot’ for the Abrams pilot, so it still stands a shot above the rest of airing.

Directed by Oscar nominated Stephen Frears, the film shows the life of  Beth Raymer and how she became hugely wealthy by entering the world of sports gambling and learning to manipulate the sportsbook system when introduced to a group of characters in Las Vegas – only to give it all up for love.

The film is still currently in the the final stages of the script process, and is set to being production later on this year.

A huge comparison from Fringe – though it’s important for actors and actresses to test out a variety of genres and experiment with roles.  With most of Jackson’s past movies being not so successful, it will be interesting to see how this film works out for him.

Nick Stahl (Sin City, Terminator 3) plays Joshua Lazarus, a telepath who has been raised in a National Security Agency (NSA) foster home.  Lazarus is brought up to help the government by using his telepath abilites.  Lazarus is taught to believe that telepathy is a side effect of a terminal disease Widmann’s Disease – which will eventually make him insane in time before certain death.  Lazarus has not seen an agent with the disease live past 29, until he meets a woman with similar powers who has lived to 31 without showing any effects of the disease whatsoever, sending Lazarus face on into the lies he has been raised with.

Blair Brown plays government leader named Bridger, who has employed telepaths to infiltrate the minds of enemies by reading their minds and stealing away their darkest secrets.

The trailer for the film will have you completely hooked, if you love films like Inception.  You can see the trailer here on youtube. Though the trailer seems compelling enough, the film has been slammed by many critics calling the film a ‘poor Inception‘ with low budget visual effects.
